How to Make Meal Planning Easy

(Even If You’re a Tired Mom Who Hates the Question “What’s for Dinner?”)
Hey moms,
Let’s be real—meal planning can feel overwhelming, especially when you’ve got a million other things on your plate. But it doesn’t have to be stressful! I’m sharing a simple system that’s worked wonders for our family and has made the whole “what’s for dinner” panic a thing of the past.
Step 1: Make a List of Your Family’s Favorite Meals
Sit down and brainstorm a list of meals your family actually enjoys. Keep it simple—don’t worry about making every night a Pinterest-worthy gourmet event. Just write down the meals that are easy, crowd-pleasing, and realistic for your weeknights.
Step 2: Pick a Theme for Each Day of the Week
This is where the magic happens. When each day has a “theme,” it narrows your options and makes planning SO much easier. Here’s what ours looks like:
- Monday – Slow Cooker / One Pot
- Tuesday – Tacos / Mexican Night
- Wednesday – Pasta Night
- Thursday – Soup, Salad, or Sandwiches
- Friday – Pizza Night (homemade or ordered!)
- Saturday – Grill / BBQ / Easy Summer Meals
- Sunday – Leftovers / Clean Out the Fridge
Once you have your themes, you just plug in meals that fit those categories from your favorites list!
Step 3: Plan Weekly, but Keep It Flexible
Some weeks I just reuse a meal plan I already made—it’s one less thing to think about! Other times I’ll swap out a few meals to keep things fresh. The key is to make the system work for you, not the other way around.
Step 4: Use My Editable Meal Plan Printable
I’ve included a simple editable meal planning template for you to fill in with your own family’s favorites. You can print it out and stick it on the fridge, or keep it on your phone for easy access. I refer to mine every week when I’m making my grocery list to be sure I have everything I need.
Let’s take the stress out of dinner and stop the nightly “what’s for dinner?!” freak-out. You’ve got this, mama.
