Where Do I Even Start?! Tackling a Messy House Without Losing It

For the mom staring at the mess thinking “burn it down” sounds easier.

Step 1: Breathe & Zoom In (Time: 1 min)

Don’t look at the whole house.
Pick one zone the size of a kitchen table or smaller.

Step 2: Set a 10-Minute Timer (Time: 10 min)

Seriously. Just 10 minutes.
Put on music or a podcast, and do a fast declutter: trash, dirty dishes, clothes on the floor.

Step 3: Use a “Catch-All” Basket (Time: 2 min)

Toss all random stuff that doesn’t belong in that space into a laundry basket.
You’ll deal with it later — or at least it’s not under your feet.

Step 4: Wipe or Vacuum One Surface (Time: 3–5 min)

One countertop. One coffee table. One floor spot.
You’re not scrubbing baseboards here — just aiming for visible calm.

Step 5: Celebrate the Win (Time: 1 min)

Take a photo. Light a candle. Sip your Happy Juice.
You started — and that’s everything.
